Appliques

Machine embroidered appliques

  • If backed with hot fix, press with a hot iron on cotton setting, using baking paper to protect embroidery.
  • Sew in place permanently:*Hint: Sew close to outline in back stitch in dark thread or blanket stitch around edge in matching color.
  • **Hint: Easy stitch. Work small stab stitches around the edges, following the direction the embroidery threads lie will help them sink in.
  • Don’t make your stitches too long & secure the start & finish with a knot.
  • *** Hint: A cross stitch, or a bar stitch will do if attaching to difficult to sew areas.
  • Get decorative, add your own hand embroidery details as you sew down.
  • Stabilizer in the applique may stiffen it, but it will soften with washing & handling
  • To soften, soak the (sew on) applique in a bowl of warm water for 5 minutes. Squeeze gently & rinse in cold water & dry flat on a towel.
